How do you be more effective at reading a textbook? Also how do you get interested in it to begin with?

So I'm retaking a required class about Ethical/Legal Concerns. The problem is the textbook is so long and boring. It is talking about my reactions and other people's reactions and serving people and what is considered right and wrong in the "profession".

But it's SO boring and very wordy. I don't think I'd say "difficult" but more "devils in the details". The book is basically saying "this is 'right' and this is 'wrong'" and wow. I get tired of reading after a couple paragraphs. It's just so long, tedious, and ultimately boring. I'm surprised I even managed to read for 2 hours...although not very effective considering I can't even remember most of what I read.

I tried taking some notes but at the rate I am going at I'll have 100 pages and it would be a waste of time/energy.

How can I "read" the book or even get interested in it? Any advice?
